The parents of the Kolkata doctor who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital moved the Calcutta High Court on Thursday as they sought a fresh investigation into the crime, expressing a "lack of confidence" in the Central Bureau of Investigation who are currently probing into the incident.

Their plea was mentioned before the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh on Thursday who asked their lawyer to add the CBI as a party in the petition. The matter will be mentioned before the Court on December 24 again.
The incident took place on August 9 and was under the jurisdiction of State police but the parents of the victim had moved to the Calcutta HC against the investigation and it was transferred to the CBI.
The Calcutta HC at that time had directed CBI to investigate the case on a priority basis.
The CBI had been submitting timely status updates to the Supreme Court as well.
CBI Probe On Rape & Murder Case So FarThe body of an on-duty postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
Prime Accused Sanjay Roy was arrested by the Kolkata police only a day after the incident and the CBI has filed a charge sheet against him.
According to the charge sheet, Roy, a civic volunteer with the local police, allegedly committed the crime while the victim was resting in the seminar room during a break.
While the trial against the main accused, Sanjoy Roy, continues in the trial court, two other individuals involved in the alleged cover-up conspiracy, former principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal were granted bail by the Sealdah Court on December 13.
This was due to the CBI's failure to file charge sheets against them within the mandated 90-day period.
Ghosh was arrested by the CBI on September 2, after the Calcutta High Court, on August 23, had ordered the agency to investigate alleged financial irregularities and mishandling of key evidence in the rape case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Ghosh was accused of tampering with evidenceking game, while Mondal is accused of delaying the filing of an FIR following the discovery of the body.
