This journey of sacrifice and service takes center stage in “Nurse Unseen,” a documentary set to premiere at the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) 2025 in Los Angeles.

This measure is important as the country remains on the radar of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) for fraudulent medical products, said GS1 Philippines, the leading organization for implementing local barcode standards.

The Japanese Embassy in Manila provided the grant to the Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., which will lead the capacity-building programs for beneficiary farmers.

Directed by Michele Josue, “Nurse Unseen” sheds light on the often-overlooked contributions of Filipino nurses who have played a critical role in global healthcare. 

The film unveils stories of courage, compassion and resilience amid one of the most challenging periods in modern history.

More than just a chronicle of their work, the documentary delves into the rich but lesser-known history of Filipino nurses abroad, offering an emotional and insightful tribute to these unsung heroes.

The screening of the documentary will be on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6:30 pm at the Chinese Theatres. After the premiere, it will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the filmmakers and featured cast members in attendance.

The Manila International Film Festival, running from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, 2025, promises to be a grand showcase of Filipino cinema on an international stage. 

Beyond “Nurse Unseen,” audiences can look forward to an exciting lineup of films, including entries from the recent Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) such as Jun Robles Lana’s “And the Breadwinner Is…” and Jason Paul Laxamana’s “Hold Me Close.”

Additionally, special screenings of historic classics like “Genghis Khan” (1950) and “A Filipino in America” (1938) will highlight the legacy of Filipino filmmakers.

Tickets for the screenings and gala are now available on the MIFF website. Screenings will be held at the TCL Chinese Theatre, located at 6925 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, Calif.
